The Worst 5 Things You Can Do After Being Charged with DUI in Pennsylvania

Getting advice from a friend or family member who was arrested for DUI in the past. Your friend or relative had a certain experience because of his/her Pennsylvania DUI. Certain things happened in a distinct order based on the circumstances of his/her DUI. But that doesn't give your friend or relative the knowledge about what you should do for the probably very different circumstances of your DUI charge.

Maybe your friend didn't care if his license was suspended for 30 days. In your case maybe it would cost you your job.

Maybe he could afford a significant increase in his insurance rates . . . and for you that would break your budget

And so on.

You need a DUI lawyer to discover what could happen to you and what your options are.

Not taking the DUI charge seriously. As I've discussed elsewhere on this site, Pennsylvania DUI law has made certain penalties more severe for people convicted of DUI.

The state government has shown that it takes a DUI charge very seriously. If you wish to keep driving and not have to pay significant fines and other charges for a DUI conviction, you need to also treat your charge just as seriously.

Trying to represent yourself.

Tell me, do you know what motions to file and when to protect your rights? Do you know how the breath testing machine works and how it's results can be challenged? Do you know how to show that the Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were improperly conducted in your DUI arrest so that evidence shouldn't be used against you?

I know many DUI lawyers who don't. Let alone someone like you without the training to even begin defending yourself.

Hiring the lawyer who handled the closing on your house. In other words, hiring a lawyer with a practice not related to DUI rather than an experienced DUI lawyer is a certain recipe for a DUI conviction.

Would you let your Internal Medicine doctor do brain surgery on you?

Ridiculous, right?

So why would you let a lawyer without specialized training and experience in DUI defense represent you for a DUI charge?

Being arrested and charged with DUI in Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer and Northwestern Pennsylvania and not have me defend you!
